Chess Club Monthly Newsletter
June 5, 2017

Thank you to everyone who is participating in the Master Puzzler. Lots of players submitting entries and keeping the race very close!

Monday June 5th we will be trying something new....AGAIN! 4 player match ups!

There is a certain social piece to playing in a club. We join clubs to meet up with others who have a similar interest. Sometimes barriers get in the way such as meeting new players, joining new clubs or even setting up a game with another player. Again, a few of us have gotten together to discuss how we can overcome this hurdle. Well to start, what if we set up matches and take some of the stress out of asking? With Four player match up that's what we hope to do.

When you come in to the club on Monday night, we will have you sign in as usual, and another sheet with a list of our club players. At 6:45 we will take the sheet and group together groups of four players based on who comes to play. Simply stated, we will look at the sign in sheet and group together 4 players per matchup.

When you know who you are playing, write down their names and find your group. Set up your boards and find a clock (provided). Did I say clock?! Yes! All games will have a clock with 15 min for each player, 30 minutes total. In doing this, we can have everyone finished in a reasonable amount of time, shooting for 8:30 to 8:45 pm.

When you’ve finished your 3 games, bring the sheet with your results to Frank or Jeff and we will apply them to the ladder for the next open Monday night. The top player in the group will go up and the player with the fewest points in the group will move down the ladder. The two people in the middle will not change position.

Our goal is eventually to have everyone enjoying 3 evenly matched games with the goal to improve and move up the ladder. Now there are plenty of "what if's" and unknowns. Please be patient as the club works out the wrinkles for this new format.

As a reminder, our chess library is free to everyone. If you would like to borrow a book, do so. If you’re done with the book, please return it so that other members can enjoy!
