Chess Club Monthly Newsletter

Welcome!
Welcome to all of our newest players. Our attendance is growing and our Monday evenings are busy setting up enough tables to accommodate everyone. Problems every club would like to have.
A few of us have been meeting, discussing and planning what our chess club will look like for the 2017/2018 year and are excited to share a few sketches of what is to come for all of you!
First, a new format for club play. In the near future we will begin trialing a matching system that will automatically pair people up with similarly skilled individuals. Depending on attendance for that night, the goal is to get those people three evenly matched games.
Second, “The Chess Chat”. Once a month, Frank Walls and Jeff Sotski will be offering a very brief, 5 - 15 min talk about a particular chess topic. Just as a direction, topics will fall under basics, problems, tactics to mid and advanced concepts including forks, skewers and opening moves. Dates and topics are to be determined however once finalized, an email blast will be sent out as well as listings of date and topic on our Winchesster.com website.
Third, and last little bit for this month’s message, a question. Are YOU our club puzzle master? More to come on this exciting endeavor Monday, May 1st.
If you want to shape the future you have to be involved in making it. As we move forward, we ask that all members, old and new please try to attend at least once a month if only to hear what new activities are happening.
