Chess Club Monthly Newsletter
July 17, 2017

Let's talk about last chess session.  Wow, 24 players at one time, not counting parents who graciously drive us to the games and wait for us to finish.  Twenty Four Players!  At a minimum there were 48 games played that night!  Very encouraging – let's keep a good thing going.

We're still playing chess Monday night, August 7, even as the Winchester/Clark Co. Parks & Recreation Dept. will be closed from Aug. 5 until Aug. 16 for deep cleaning and needed changes. We'll meet as normal in the downstairs area of the College Park Library starting at 6:15.

The four player match ups will continue this Monday. The quad-style play is working out well we think for now. The current leaderboard will posted on the Winchesster.com website soon. If you are not able to make it in at 6:15 or very soon after, please let us know you are coming (text 859-749-2503 or email hisrook@gmail.com) this will assist us for easier quad “pairings”.  Ladder play is almost here – be patient with us as we attempt to get this started. Announcements in the regard will be made soon.

New!  We have a website forum for posting messages about ideas, comments, suggestions, questions, whatever. There's a link on our website for your convenience.  While it shouldn't have to be said, it must.  Please use common sense when posting anything – always remembering that our kids will be looking at our forums and follow the terms and conditions when signing up. Make sure you add your two-cents in on the Quad—Ladder Competition thread.  Create your own username to sign in and get started at https://winchesster.forumotion.com.

The puzzler challenge is moving along well.  Sometime after the Pioneer Festival we are going to reset the Puzzler points to zero for everyone and the season will go into the third Monday of November with the final results posted on the first Monday of December.  If you choose to work on puzzles between the quad rounds, please be respectful to your opponents and keep an eye on the other game within your group to help keep things going.

In closing, if you haven’t been to the chess club in a while or are new to the club know this, we're enjoying a great time of success with participating players. We have not seen numbers of players like this in regular club sessions ever (excepting tournaments).  The excitement and positive feedback just fuels the fire that much more.  Bring a friend and we will provide the board.

Strong work Club!
